Default The Value of "Top" Lists

Lists such as these prove the value of having a forum like this one.

If you were to ask anyone in CT. if they would willingly send their child to Central in Bridgeport, what will be the response?

Conversely, Amity High has always been one of the most coveted schools in CT, yet it's not in their top 25 list.

I was thinking the same thing about Greenwich.

Unless HUGE, and I mean HUGE, changes occurred at Bridgeport Central, then this list is useless. We used to play Central in high school sports. Every game we were threatened with violence. This is back before the whole zero tolerance business came around. That school was Rough with a capital R. I highly doubt much has changed.

Yet again, another useless list. Just like the 100 best places to live, 300 best places to raise a family, etc.

Great list. I am job hunting in education and that helps.

Is Amity really that good? I went there... years ago- before the new building.

I agree with you to an extent.

Did you look at the methodology used when compiling the data for this list? It has much to do with college readiness, and very little to do with 'zero tolerance' and threats of violence. I have watched violence at games between Pomperaug and Weston, and Staples and Darien.

I do agree that the list is somewhat inaccurate because they skipped over many states. Granted the states they skipped aren't known for top notch education - but still, the fact that they were skipped over shows bias.

Check out the methodology and the ranking formula.

Amity Region 5 (Orange, Woodbridge, Bethany) is an excellent school district.

Also missing from this list are the highly regarded West Hartford high schools: Hall and Conard. These schools have reasonable class sizes and score above the state averages on the Connecticut Academic Performance Tests.

I also agree that Amity is an excellent school that should have been on the list. Same with Greenwich and Trumbull. Anyway it is nice to see the list but before anyone decides where to live they should closely look at the schools system and be sure it meets their needs and expectations. Jay

Every time positive news comes out about Bridgeport the haters line up like mindless lemmings to spew their negativity.

The fact is that the magnet program at Central is very good and this is not the first time Central has received praise.

LOL

Well in that case, this "mindless lemming" is happy to see that the program at Central is doing so well. I had harbored resentment over the fact that 90% of Bridgeport's education budget is provided to them by the state(through income taxes paid by us), while my town gets significantly less state aid through ECS. It's great to see that the funding is being used so effectively in Bridgeport!
