Hello Everyone,
Thank you ahead of time for reading and maybe having some advise. We are spending this weekend looking for houses in the University area (but flexible depending on the house) and I am completely lost about what to do about preschool for my soon to be 4 year old son. I know most schools pre-register about a year prior. Can anyone suggest any schools or direction to begin looking? I am hoping for a school only as opposed to a school/daycare.

I also am looking for any mothers group suggestions.

Thank you as always-
Katie

I just went through a search for preschool next year with my 3 1/2 year old, and most of the schools fill up in November of the previous year. That said, you can go through and get on the waiting list for them, and I think they often have openings at the end of the summer when people change their plans. I have a handy list of preschools for you too- I'll see if I can PM it.

We ended up going with a daycare/preschool setup in Trumbull, but that works for me, because he can go year round! We did get a call from one of the schools we were on a waitlist for as well.

There are several churches that offer non-denominational preschools. Grace Methodist, St. Paul's, Greenfield Hill Congregational, Trinity and I think Southport Congregational and the Presbyterian Church on Easton Tpke/Stratfield Road. These do usually register ahead of time, but it will be worth your while to get him on the wait list, as you never know. There are usually more than one class for four year olds and the class sizes are bigger so they can accept more children than in the 3's. The YMCA on the Old Post Road also has a preschool program.

Default preschool

I was recently looking for a preschool for my 4 year old and Unquowa school seemed to have openings. I had a visit scheduled but I ended up canceling because I am unsure about the uniform policy. And they called me again to tell me that I can still visit the school and that maybe I cange my mind. It is supposed to have good reputation. And it is not cheap. It is on Stratfield Rd.

Here's the link:

Also, I forgot that St. Timothy's on Congress Street has a preschool called Small to Tall Scholars.

There is also a new preschool in Fairfield called Hill Farm Preschool. It is in the Greenfield Hill area and is a non-denominational preschool. They are having an open house next Tuesday June 22, 2010 10-12 and 6-8pm. www.hillfarmpreschool.com
