Also wanted to mention that although greatschoolsdotnet is a great tool, I can tell you the information on there as far as # of students and student/teacher ratio is very outdated (at least for my children's school). Way off, at least in our case.

New Milford is a good option for people such as yourself that can't afford Westchester or Fairfield. It is geographically the largest town in the state. The commute will get a little quicker since the state is working on a bypass of Brookfield, so it can save your husband about 5 minutes or so each way.One of the great things about New Milford is Candlewood Lake. The downtown area was used in Mr. Deed's, staring Adam Sandler. Since your husband will be commuting to Greenwich, you want to stay toward the southern part of town.
Those websites are generally out of date for most towns my area. The best bet is finding the school districts website for data. New Milford has grown a lot over the last 20 years but still keeps its small town feel and has lots of charm. I can not discuss if schools are good or not (because of licensing laws), but New Milford has a fairly new high school on Route 7 in the southern end of town.
There are 244 single family homes for sale in New Milford, ranging from $40,000 for a mobile home up to $3.2 million for 8000 square foot mansion on 30 acres. The average list price is $513,761 and has been on the market for 118 days. There are 137 homes listed under $450,000. Taxes would be about $5000 for a $450,000 home.
I am a real estate agent just south of New Milford in Danbury. If you good tell me what you are looking for in your new home (price, # of bedrooms, # of baths, square feet, amenities, style, age, yard), I will be happy to pull some matching homes from the MLS for you.
