Default Easton vs. Madison

Hi everyone! I was wondering if you could tell me some info on the CT towns Easton and Madison. I'm looking into both of them, and I really like both. Which one do you prefer?

Thanks!
Melissa

Easton: closer to New York City, therefore more expensive to buy there. Lovely, but no town center to speak of. Fairfield town center isn't terribly far, though.
Madison: more of a suburb of New Haven. Gorgeous town center and beaches.

That about sums it up.

Also Madison is located on LI Sound, Easton being inland a bit. Schools in both towns are excellent.

Much of Easton is watershed property for the Bridgeport reservoirs and most of the town has 3 acre minimum zoning, so it is a lot more rural of a town than Madison. Because Easton is in Fairfield County and is nearer to New York and Stamford, it is much more expensive than Madison. Both are excellent towns. You should visit them both and see which appeals to you more. Jay

Easton is very rural, It is all woods and if you ever need anything, there really is no commercial development to speak of. I think there is maybe one gas station and a small "general" store and that is about it. For me, Madison is a great town. Not as close to NYC, but as a town in itself there is more local shopping (the biggest box store is the local super market) but not over done, nice town center, local restaurants, there is the beach which is always nice to visit, yet there are rural parts just like in Easton as well as traditional suburban neighborhoods and small beach cottages.

Thanks for the feedback. I was leaning toward Madison to begin with, but then I came upon Easton and sorta liked it, but now I'm reassured about Madison. Thanks!

If you can afford Easton I wouldn't rule it out. I lived there most of my life and my family still does. The Trumbull Mall and all the shopping you could ever want to do is all within five to ten minutes depending on which side of the town you are on. A large part of Easton is not rural. It's more suburban. There are rural areas in the northern parts of town. In the southern part of the town the zoning varies from under 1/2 an acre on up. There are three gas stations a couple of general stores(pizza place) and a resturaunt that serves breakfast and lunch. It's not very commercially developed but that is part of it's charm and what the people who live there like. I now live in Vermont, but I miss the quality of life I had growing up there.

I agree, visit both towns before making a decision. Good luck.

Easton is real rural however you are close to Norwalk and Stamford via the Merritt or back roads. The trip to NYC could be a hassle. Madison (my town) is 20 minutes from everything however the schools are great; top 5 in state. We do have great beaches too.

I lived 10 years near Easton so I know the area very well

Easton is a great town - again it is more expensive because it is closer to NYC. Madison is further out and offers a more remote lifestyle. The closest large city to Madison is New Haven, about 25 minutes west. Easton is closer to larger cities, Metro North and is still within easy access of the beach.

Do spend some time in Easton. It's a beautiful town. While I don't always agree with Connecticut Magazine, I do agree with their ranking of Easton - usually #1 or #2 in the state.

The best way to learn about a town is to spend time there. Both towns are beautiful and it just depends on your priorities. Try to visit the individual town web sites -- I find these to always be helpful. Good luck -- either choice is excellent.
