Default rental housing if working in Westport

Where would you want to live if you were working in Westport near the Fairfield border?

Info:
family of 3 (need daycare)- schools not an issue yet
cat
want to rent for a year-ish until we find an area we like (just moved from NC)
one income (around 75k)
prefer a house
hate commuting

I would recommend Fairfield itself. It is a nice large town with a lot of shopping, restaurants, train station, parks, beaches, and excellent schools. You might find an annual income of 75k to be a little low for Fairfield, though. I think small starter homes start around 450k there. Check Craigslist for rentals. A cheaper option would be Stratford or Shelton, a little north of Fairfield. Your commute would be a little longer, though.

I would also recommend Fairfield. It is a great town with excellent schools and a wide range of housing options including some rentals. You should note though that this area is very expensive, so be prepared to pay more for rentals than you would find in NC. The other suggested options would be Stratford or Milford which are a little more affordable. Jay

Weston is pretty pricey though and I am not sure a family could find a home there on a $75k salary. You would have a better chance for that in Fairfield. Jay
