Carpenter Ants....E. Hampton
Can you guess I am looking at houses in E. Hampton? Are carpenter ants prevalent in E. Hampton? I know it is an easy fix, about $300.00 if there is no damage to the structure...any thoughts, info??? thanks...

Depends on how long they have been allowed to 'eat' the wood. If the previous owners where proactive it should not be a large problem.

There are traps but i have found them ineffective in the past. Perhaps a specialist is best equipped at getting rid of them.

You can go to your local hardware store and explain the problem. There's a substance that can be put around the foundation of the house and also around the cracks inside. A friend of mine did this a while back, and the problem was corrected in a matter of days.

Boric acid, available at Family Dollar.
Boric acid, available at Family Dollar. Spread around the foundation & around doorways etc., can be mixed with powdered sugar, they eat it and bring it back to the nest to share it. It cracks the exoskeleton, and poof dead, it does the same to their digestion. I've heard it about as toxic as to people, pets as table salt.
