Default Year Long Weekend train service between New Haven and Old Saybrook

The Shore Line East train now will operate year-round weekend service from Union Station in New Haven to Old Saybrook.

They are also adding a later New London bound train from New Haven that will run seven days a week departing at 9:00 pm.

Whether it's proactive or reactive to the present state of fuel costs, it does provide travelers with another option.

Rhode Island is going to study extending their Providence to Boston commuter train down to the border with CT in Westerly:
