West Hartford would be a great choice- has everything and right next to all Hartford has to offer.

As skytrekker said, West Hartford would be a great option. Lots of restaurants and a vibrant Center area where you'd be able to meet people. Downtown Hartford is another good choice, nice restaurants and cultural offerings.

If you're looking to rent, West Hartford would offer mostly units in multi-family buildings, condos being rented out by owners, and a few garden-style apartment buildings. Downtown Hartford has several new apartment buildings; 55 on the Park, Hartford 21, 915 Main Street, Lofts at Main & Temple...

Also, what town will you be working in? That will help us give you ideas with reasonable commute times.

Welcome!

As others have stated West Hartford, Downtown. If you want to be in between West End of Hartford.

I moved to the W. End 3 weeks ago. Every weekend i have gone out to view the night life. After talking to locals i have been told the summer season is light on people b/c of the colleges being out. In a 5 mile radius there are quite 5 or so colleges.

Every night I have gone to West Hartford I have not seen any lively night life. I would consider it more lounge type, which is not that bad. However, at this point in my life i have no reason to stroll up to ladies and force a convo - aka i moved here with my GF. DownTown is a little better depending on what you are going for. I am still trying to find the classier/upscale lounges and clubs.

If you want like any more specifics PM me and remember i am new to CT coming from De

Middletown would be about a 30 or so minute commute from Hartford.

Why don't you consider living in Middletown? I believe it also has a nice downtown area, good restaurants, and Wesleyan gives it a nice "college town" atmosphere.

Middletown has a lot of nice reasonable apartments and condos and there is a nice downtown area with restaurants and bars. Many singles live in Middletown because it is convenient to both Hartford and New Haven. I would look for a place there particularly if you are going to be working there. Will make you commute easy and it is a very nice place to live. JMHO Jay

Gross generalization alert, please take this in a light-hearted spirit:

If you're more towards the hipster end of the spectrum, you'll probably prefer Middletown. If you're more towards the yuppie end, you'll probably prefer West Hartford. If you're somewhere in the middle, I'd give the edge to West Hartford, or Hartford itself (especially the West End).

Default Hartford 21

If you still need a place Hartford 21's the best there is.

I agree, for a young professional downtown Hartford would be the place to rent/own. West Hartford Center is a nice option as well, but Hartford would have more choices for nightlife, arts, attractions and eating options.
