I also wanted to say that while, according to NCLB, the Stamford Public Schools as a whole aren't doing so well, I have not stepped foot into one classroom in Stamford in which children weren't learning and teachers weren't doing their jobs. The public schools in Stamford are a lot better than they are in other areas of the country (no Teach for America teachers here), and if your child goes to school in Stamford, you an be assured that he/she will have a well-rounded educational experience.

Good luck!
It's should be its. Possessive pronouns don't have an apostrophe. I wouldn't have pointed it out, but you made the comments that "[You're] a teacher" and "no Teach for America teachers here."

Please don't start correcting spelling here, otherwise I may have to start checking my posts more closely. Jay

I think you are safe with your spelling unless you are stating that you are a teacher, not having a grasp of the English grammatic, but putting other teacher affiliations down
Please, nobody comment on where I put my commas. I never understood the rules for that

You hit the nail on the head. This was precisely my point.

No I am not a teacher. I just mean that I do not want to worry about having corrdct spelling and puncuation with every post I make. Commas confuse me too. Jay

I know there are many families who send their kids to private school in Stamford. Does anyone know which schools are the most popular and not ridiculously expensive??? Either non-religious school or Catholic. thanks!

The "cheapest" ones are probably the catholic schools. A lot of my friends send their elementary school kids to St. Cecilia's in Stamford. I think that runs anywhere from $5000-7000, depending if you are a member of the church or not. There are more, but I am not that familiar with the catholic schools
Then there are the non-denominational ones. They are much more expensive. There is Long Ridge school, New Canaan Country School, Pear Tree Point, KLHT, Brunswick (boys), aso. They are around $25,000/year.
From my personal experience: it is very tough getting into any of those schools unless you start in pre-k or k. But with the current financial climate that may change, too.
I had/have kids in the public and private schools here. We have been very happy with our private schools so far.

Your public school experience in Stamford depends a lot on your child and the school he/she will attend. The quality of the school depends on a great part on the individual school administration. There are some good ones in Stamford, but there are also some really bad ones. Stamford seems to spend a lot more time/money on balancing their schools socio-economically than improving the academic standards for the different schools. But that is just my opinion.
My advice is to either move to a neighbouring town or put them in private.
But even Greenwich has some academic/financial problems and unhappy parents from what I read.

Yeah but this most likely has to do with unreasonably high expectations on the part of the parents. This kind of thing occurs in most upscale communities and even some modest ones. Jay
