Visiting Mystic in September
Hi:
My wife's family and I will be attending a wedding in Mystic in September, and I'd like to find out anything I can about the town. I don't know how much time I'll have to explore but any information would be great. Also, what are some of the good hotels in the city? Looks like a beautiful town. Thanks!

Can't comment on the hotel situation since I'm local, but there is lots to do in Mystic. The aquarium is great - i would say really more for kids, but a good few hours visit for anyone. my wife and I enjoy strolling the village adjacent to the aquarium. There is also shopping in downtown mystic and at the seaport. There is a winery just a short drive away in stonington. The link below might be useful

Thanks for the advice and Websites. What's the closest airport to Mystic? I know airlines are cutting flights but we may end up trying to fly in from Harrisburg, PA or Philly and renting a car. Thanks again for the help.

TF Green Airport may be your best bet- in Providence RI- about 1 hour up (north) of Mystic I 95
Tweed New Haven Airport-about 55 minutes to the west has only a few carriers.
Bradley Field in Windsor Locks (BDL) is more then hour away.

While in Mystic think about visiting the Westerly/Watch Hill, R.I. area. Check out the Watch Hill website.

Thanks again for all the advice. Does anyone has any recommendations for motels or B&B'S in the Mystic and surrounding areas? I've checked Orbitz, Expedia, etc for reviews but that really doesn't tell me everything. Is there anyone who may have worked at a motel or delivered there, etc that can provide me with an opinion? We're seeking a clean, smoke-free room. The wedding and reception is in Stonington and I doubt we'll have alot of time for sightseeing. Thank you.

Didn't the Tripadvisor link I posted above give you what you needed? There must have been in excess of 500 reviews of accommodation in Mystic on there, with all properties ranked in terms of popularity - that's a whole lot more opinions than you'll get on here.

Ouch! Sorry tonrob. I've read just about every review on every site but some of them are 2-3 years old and I'm just seeking an opinion from someone who knows the physical property and sees it regularly. My mother in law just had open-heart surgery and I'm dealing with a brother in law who thinks we can get a room in a 3-star hotel for a $100 a night so I need to get this right or I won't hear the end of it.

Sorry - wasn't having a pop - just thought you hadn't checked the site out properly. I travel a lot and use Tripadvisor above all else and rarely been let down.
In Mystic I've stayed at the Marriott, Hilton and - just last weekend - the Residence Inn. They're all fine as I'm sure are many other places. Lots of properties have in the region of 40-50 reviews on the site and you get a fairly representative feel from those, as long as at least a few are recent. Prices in the chains are usually quite elastic depending on demand and September is not a cheap time to stay anywhere in New England. further out there are more motels in nearby Groton and New London although thee won't necessarily be much cheaper due to the close proximity of the beaches and other attractions.
