My wife may have an oppurtunity to work in Windsor in the near future, so I'm just doing a little research.

I looked real quick at some real estate listings, & was surprised to see what looked to be some decent houses in the $250 to $260,000 range.

This is about the price range we need to deal with.

4 bedrooms, which is important, as we have 3 kids.

What is Hartford county like in general, regarding the surrounding towns?

Which other towns would be alternatives to live in while working in Windsor?

School sytem quality?

I did not see a Pop Warner football program on their official site, either.

Any clue as to a nearby program?

Amy help woul be appreciated.

Hartford County is comprised of 29 towns/cities. It is second only to Fairfield County in population. As a rule, it, New Haven, and Fairfield County each have 25 percent of the state's population. They also have four of the largest cities in the state (Waterbury and New Haven = NH; Hartford = Htfd; Bridgeport = Fairfield).

The northern part of Hartford County is less populated than the southern part. Two Interstates, 84 and 91, run through the county. There's also Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks.

A quick look at the Statewide MLS shows that there are 124 single-family properties on the market. The range is 119,900 - $1,900,000. The median is $277,900.

The population of Windsor is 29,000 - about the same as my town of Cheshire. If this is too much, you could consider Windsor Locks with 12,000. There are currently 39 properties on the market. The range is 137,900 - $399,900, and the median is $225,000.

I wouldn't attempt to offer alternatives without knowing what you desire in a town or community.

Windsor has a very cute town center and is centrally located to Rtes 91 and 291 (which connects to 84).

If you want football, I think you will find that Pop Warner is in the southern areas of the state. Everywhere else has youth football. Follow this link for more info about the Windsor Giants Midget Football - http://windsorgiants.com

Just some thoughts that might help;
  • The side of Windsor that is farthest away from Hartford has better schools. You might want to look in Granby as well.
  • Two major companies have announced they are building large campuses in Windsor to be finished by 2010 or later. I don't know how that will affect the area as far as traffic but it leads me to believe that the area's housing prices would go up because of it.
  • South Windsor is also a very nice area with good schools
