Talking I am 22... Where should I live?

I just graduated from college in CA and am moving to CT for work (My family is on the east coast)...

I need advice on where to live in the greater Hartford area.

I really know no one in CT, so I want to be somewhere that I can...
-Feel safe living on my own
-Go out and meet young professionals

I know West Hartford is supposed to be a fun area but I think that $1560 (Blue Back Square) would be too much for one person to pay right outside of college for a nice apt. I would however, LOVE a new-ish apt. as I love to cook and the fact that it has a gym membership included- is very enticing!

-Because I know no one, I would really really love a place that would allow me to meet a youngish crowd and explore new restaurants, etc. without having to look for alternate forms of transportation... Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for me?

I greatly appreciate it! Thanks!!!

Cheapest would be Hartford proper, or the suburbs of Manchester and Vernon. I haven't spent much time up there, but I know Manchester is very affordable and offers a great quality of life. Traffic is very light east of Hartford so you won't have to worry about that. West Hartford is a great town, though not too inexpensive.

I might also suggest you look in New Haven. It's the third best area in CT for people your age - the first two being pricey Stamford and Norwalk which are far from Hartford. New Haven has Yale, many of the most well-known restaurants in the nation. New Haven is also very affordable and I'd suggest the areas of East Rock, Westville or downtown. There is also a great nightlife in New Haven, IMO better than Hartford. In New Haven you also have access to Connecticut's commuter rail into NYC - Metro North. In New Haven, the beach is at your doorstep.

Good luck. Message me if you have any other questions - we are close in age.

Generally- towns east of Hartford will have lower rents in attractive apartment communities. Manchester has some new apartments around the Buckland hills area that will be less then $1100 a month (1 bedroom) with pool, gym and other amenities. Vernon also is a good place to consider -at Hockanum Crossing.

A lot of young people like yourself choose Middletown. It is a nice small city with a nice downtown area and it is convenient to both Hartford and New Haven for nightlife. Wesleyan University is there for some cultural activities and unlike West Hartford it is nt as expensive. It is also pretty safe. Jay

I was thinking Middletown as well - I spent a few months basically living there while my g/f went to WU. It's a nice college town, but other than that it was fairly boring. If you're not connected to the university then IMO you may have trouble meeting people. Also I noticed animosity between the locals and the out of towners, but I guess that can be said for any college town.

Try the Westlake section of Middletown-lots of younger folks from all over live there.

The apts at BlueBack are going to be mostly old (er) folks, I think-I know of some moved there already.

Default What about these?

Thanks everyone! Greatly appreciate it.

How about Manchester? Specifically, The Vintage at the Grove
15 Horizon Way...

Lofts at The Mills
91 Elm St.

Or... West Hartford on Farmington Avenue?

It is pretty difficult to do this all online but I cannot make it back to CT for a couple of weeks-

I don't know much about these apartments but I quickly looked up the Vintage at the Grove - if the photos are an accurate depiction of the area, then it is beautiful. I'm sure others can help you though.

As for West Hartford - there are virtually no areas that you can go wrong in. It's a great town.

Why dont you live at home, and find a job you like. You could pay room and board cheaper. and you are very young to go away. you might enjoy Boston, however, it is money. Get a job, paying well, then fly the nest.
