Default Madison, CT for First Time

My partner and I drove to Madison, CT for the first time this past Saturday. We stayed overnight at a bed and breakfast right in the center of the town. What a gorgeous and quaint town this was. I was pleasantly surprised. Having never been there, I was *hoping* it was a seaside village with character and some nice boutiques, antique shops, restaurants, and stores. Wow, what a treat. We really loved it.

The beach was superior--with the best swimming I've experienced on a CT beach. This area is a wonderful close get-away that is worth going to.

Any others have a pleasantly-surprised experience with Madison? We were so happy and will definitely go back. The quality of life seemed superb there.

Glad to hear you loved Madison! Yes, it always was and still is very sweet and quaint. Hasn't changed much in 50 years... But let's keep all that a secret between just you and me, okay? Wouldn't want too many people showing up and populating the place, now would we? Good!

Yes the beach is wonderful. Did you happen to go to the Surf Club or did you try Hammonassett State Park? There is a lot to do, it is quaint and the town has a lot of personality. We are seeing many more folks coming up from Fairfield and Hartford Counties to visit. Try the Madison town web site for more information on activities.

We went to the Surf Club...it seemed quieter with less "roudiness" than the state park. Small but very nice beach. Good waves, great sand, and good swimming.

They are trying to pass an exclusive place at the old airport. SGOD did spread propaganda for years about its ruin of tranquility. However in their hubris actions they forgot to mention tobacco road; an area of old shacks that are behind the Mobil station that borders Griswald Airport. This should be in development soon. Good luck however Madison residents love to pass taxes on the old residents and the water view people.

Yes (I live in Fairfield County), my friends and I discovered it a few years ago as we were planning a weekend getaway and were thwarted in our efforts to get to Newport, Block Island, or the Cape. The Inn at Lafayette has some nice rooms. Next time, try the Madison Beach Hotel - it's right on the water and has its own little beach.
