Default How bad is the commute from Glastonbury to New Britian?

My Family and I will be moving to the area. I will be working in New Britian, and we are considering living in Glastonbury. We have heard it is a tough commute. Can anyone tell me for cetain how bad is the commute?

Not bad at all. A little heavy (between 7:30 am and 8:30) getting to exit 5D on Rt. 2 to cross the bridge via Rt. 3 (only when school is in session, summers are great!), but other than that it is smooth sailing. I find that commute to be pretty easy. By "a little heavy" I mean some stop and go, it will slow you down 5 minutes maximum. Not a big deal. The only traffic plagued area in Hartford is 84, and even that isn't that bad.

It shouldn't be TOO bad but might I suggest looking at homes in Farmington. The schools are excellent and it's much closer to New Britain than Glastonbury.

I would not call it a tough commute. Depending on where you live in Glastonbury, it will be about one half hour to get to New Britain if you take the Rte. 3 bridge that connects Rte. 2 to I-91, then I-91 to Rte 9 to New Britain. As long as you avoid Hartford, as Mels said, you shouldn't have too many problems.

It's an absolute mess during rush hour near the interchange with 91. Once you're past that, smooth sailing (unless you're headed west toward Waterbury, in which case it will be bumper to bumper.)

You shouldn't need to go through hartford at all and the commute should be easy, as others have said, route 3 (putnum bridge) to 91 south to route 9.

I am not sure who told you the commute from Glastonbury to New Britain would be tough but they are wrong. If you had to go through Hartford to do this, there may be an issue but you do not. I know a number of people that do it everyday and have no problems. The route would be to cross the Putnam Bridge to I-91 South and then take route 9 North to New Britain. It is about 15 miles and should take no more than 20 minutes even during rush hour. There are no "rough" areas along this route. Even the Putnam Bridge is nothing. Hope this helps. Jay
