Default Top earning towns

I'm normally not a fan of "Top Lists" but still found it impressive that three CT towns ranked in the top five nationally for median household income.

New Canaan ranked first, Darien second and Westport fifth. Greenwich is number fourteen.

Best places to live 2008 - Top 25: Biggest earners - from MONEY Magazine

It's interesting that Beverly Hills, the nation's most expensive town, isn't even on the "top 25 earners" list.

This is probably because Beverly Hills is a small city and does have a diverse population. Greenwich is similar in that it is considered to be the most expensive place to live in the state, but yet it is large and has a somewhat diverse population. It even has a public housing project! New Canaan and Darien do not. Jay

Yeah. Wow. New Canaan at the top with $231k earnings...This area is incredibly nice. Makes you realize how nice when lists such as these pop up.

Actually, New Canaan does have an affordable housing project on Millport Avenue.

They are located at 57 Millport Ave - but the question is, how affordable?

They are not one of those "affordable housing communities" with real homes for sale/rent at slightly reduced prices, it's an apartment complex that is run-down, especially in comparison with the rest of New Canaan. I've seen them, I wouldn't want to live in one. When I moved to New Canaan several years ago as a young adult I looked into renting one, but was told my income was too high. I was making minimum wage at the time, lol. Apparently though, it's next to impossible to get into one, because there are few vacancies that have opened over the years.

Wow very surprising. I know where they are and have driven by many times. I didn't realize that they were *true* affordable housing. Know how much they go for?
