Default Moving-Milford vs North Haven?

Hi - we are going to be moving to New Haven county and we've narrowed down our possibilities to either Milford or North Haven. We are most interested in good schools, quality of life (family w/ young kids), commuting time to NY via Metro-North. Would anyone have any recommendations as to benefits of Milford (if so, which areas?) versus North Haven?

Thanks!

Default Depends on your budget

I am a Milford resident and know the areas quite well. If you can please tell us your price range, i can make better recommendation. If commuting to NYC is one of the need then you definatley need rule out North Haven from your list.Pretty much entire Milford is nice, you can't really go wrong with any of the areas.

Regards, Coolstrom

Milford is a wonderful town with many family neighborhoods, and proximity to beach and transportation to NYC. There are many alternatives for you in your price range. Given current market conditions, there is a lot of inventory available. How quickly are you planning to make this move?

We're looking to move in the next couple of months and are comparing the following sections of North Haven and Milford. Milford sounds preferrable due to the shorter commute into NYC, but North Haven seems to have a lot to offer in terms of family-oriented neighborhoods, parks/playgrounds, as well.

Some of the areas we are considering are:

Milford: Forest Hills, Wheeler Farms Area (I think that's North Rutland, Lex Green?), Meadowside, Woodmont
North Haven: Ridge Road area, Green Acres area (I believe that's the area off Exit 63 from the Merritt).

Any input about the pros/cons of the above areas would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Milford has a Metro North station. North Haven does not, so you will have to drive into New Haven for the train. That can be difficult. both towns are very good places to raise a family. Norht Haven is a bit more suburban in character than Milford. It is up to you which better serves your needs and desires. To me though for comuting purposes, Milford would be better. JMHO, Jay

It's not the most convenient to the train station, but a few of my colleagues live in Lexington Green and are very pleased with it.

I agree that your best bet is Milford. You may also want to check out Orange - it will be a bit more expensive but the Amity schools are excellent. A commute from North Haven into Manhattan on MNRR will be very long.

Last year I met a woman that commutes from North Haven to NYC 4 days a week. It would be a long haul, but people do it. I think somebody posted on this forum a while back that he commutes from Wallingford or Hamden?

Coincidentally, I noticed two commercial trucks close to my office in NYC recently with North Haven addresses. One had something to do with cabinets and the other was something to do with machinery.

Both nice towns. I lived in the Meadowside area for 15 years. I worked in North Haven for 5 years and really liked that town as well. It could boil down to the easiest commute.
