Trolling? apparently Amy being a real estate agent is looking to sell you property there.Im sure she doesn't live there.
If anyone remembers Adam Zachs? He murdered a patron outside the Prospect cafe (ON PROSPECT AVENUE) and is now on the FBI's 10 most wanted list.
Anyone want to see the crime stats on the NORTH End of Hartford? which is directly in back of Farmington Avenue?
a real estate agent from West Hartford clearly has an agenda. So You stop trolling!
Exactly ...you would not want to be walking in those areas at anytime not just between 10 and 2.
NOTORIUS STREET GANGS OF HARTFORD ..their turf extends right along PROSEPECT AVENUEhttp://www.segag.org/ganginfo/frlsolid.html

I live on Oxford Street in the West End of Hartford. I frequently walk my dog in the evening after 10pm and have had no issues.
Edited to add: no sense in responding, I'm not going to engage in more unproductive banter with you.

I just have to say, I've been reading the posts on this forum and I feel compelled to just interject a few things...
I am not a native of Connecticut and before I moved here, TO Hartford, I had naiive ideals and expectations of Hartford. When I moved to Hartford and realized what a craphole it was, I couldn't WAIT to get out. My outside perception of Hartford was that it was a typical New England town with lots of charm. BOY was I wrong. After I moved there, it was the first I had EVER heard of Los Salitos and The Latin Kings. I lived in the "NICE" part of Hartford, the South end, where I witness murder, robbery, police raids, and every OTHER reason to move out of such a useless city on a daily basis. I was lucky that we had a gate to our back yard that we kept chained and locked at all times. I felt a little safer.
I now live in Rocky Hill and love every SECOND of it. Now, it's not to say that Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Simsbury, Avon, and other suburbs of Hartford aren't susceptible to crime, because they are, but I'd MUCH rather reside in an area where it's not prevalent and less likely.
If I had children, I wouldn't even CONSIDER the possibility of moving to the likes of Hartford with all of the vermin and low lifes that reside there. Soon, they won't have the room because they reproduce so quickly, to live there themselves. They're going to move to the suburbs...WATCH OUT! Just bear in mind, YOUR tax dollars and mine go to facilitate the reproduction of such scum and afford them the opportunities to move to where you are and create problems. Just a thought...

How is she wrong? She just told you she walks her dog after 10pm and has had no issues. Can you even read?
To the other poster - whoever told you the south end of hartford was safest didn't have a clue. The south end has been declining for years. The west end of hartford is fine.

I rented a house in Oakwood before I bought west of Troutbrook north of Farmington Ave. That area near Oakwood has detriorated over the years...break-ins and robbery of the 711 on Oakwood, Kennedy Park is no longer safe during the day for swimming, etc. Fresh is not trolling...you have had to live in the vicinity to actually experience the crime, gangs, loud music at late hours of night, etc. We actually experienced someone running through our backyard during the day while a cop was chasing him with my kids in the backyard. Sorry Sky & Amy...too close to Prospect is NOT good. To the OP, the West End is better if you can get an apartment there, or try to get one side of a duplex along Quaker or Whitman off North Main. I don't know what rent or availability is like in the West End or of any apartments or rooms along or off Park Road in the commercial area, but that is a better area IMO.

Good points Bibit!
Uconn maybe YOU need to go back to school.I also lived in the the west end which borders the NORTH end of Hartford.Considered by law enforcement one of the most dangerous areas in the US.Get a clue!
South Whitney st which is in the "west" end is infested with drug dealers, robberies, and break ins.

OP - you may be better off driving a little bit to the better areas of Bloomfield. Your commute won't be too bad (don't know where school is -assuming it's UHart or UConn Law or Uconn on Asylum). You may be able to afford a 1-BR there.
