Eastern part of West Hartford = safe?
I need to relocate to the Hartford area for school.
Ive been hearing that anywhere in West Hartford is generally safe to live in from some people, but from others I've been hearing that I need to stay away from the Hartford border/Prospect Ave and Farmington ave areas as cars are constantly broken into in there. As a student I can only find 1 bedroom apartments that I can afford on the east side of West Hartford close to Prospect Ave. One specific apartment complex I am looking at are the Westwood apartments on 106 Kane street near JFK memorial park. One person explicitly told me not to live there as it is not a good area but has only been living in the area for the past 2-3 years. Another person who grew up in Avon and frequently visited West Hartford their entire life says that it is fine.
Is this a safe area???
thanks in advance!

Perfectly fine, don't let the Hartford city line scare you.

Hartford has one of the highest crime rates per capita in the United States. Many of the vermin criminals are now moving into West Hartford. And yes the Prospect are is right near Park Street where all the major gangs run the streets. The Latin Kings and The Los Solidos.
Id stay as far away from Hartford as possible.

'Many of the 'vermin criminals' are now moving into West Hartford? Where?
The crime rate in the town is 167- according to crime stats, with a national average of 323- I would hardly call West Hartford- or even the West end of Hartford as being over run by 'vermin criminals', assorted gangs or illegals.

Prospect Avenue and Farmington Avenue on the West Hartford Line is what the poster asked about.
Prospect Avenue which runs perpendicular to Park St and Capital Avenue is controlled by street gangs mainly the Latin Kings. There has been numerous murders, assaults, and street robbieries right along Prospect Avenue.
Farmington avenue is also a hotbed of criminal activity because of its proximity to the North End.
Part of the problem is The Mayor making Hartford a sanctuary city(which is against federal law) which enables street vermin to proliferate.
Try taking your family walking around those 2 areas at night say around 10pm - 3 am.
Also park your car on those aforementioned streets and let me know how you make out.

ps. I see Sky trekker lives in Tolland county. That would pretty much explain your feedback.
I was born in Hartford, made the mistake of moving back there and finally left there for good.
I worked in all of the above mentioned areas.

I was actually born in Washington DC- and lived in East Hartford till I was 35- I feel I know of urban problems-I have lived in San Francisco, and the east Bay- Also lived a short time in Seattle- I do know that as a metro region of 1.3 million- greater Hartford has a crime rate way below the Washington, Seattle areas, and many areas in the San Francisco bay area. Hartford has a small footprint, as does New Haven- problems surely exist- but the size, scope and geographic spread is very small.

Murders along Prospect Avenue?
Farmington Avenue's proximity to the North End?
Stop trolling.
