Thank yo to all of you so far! My husbad agrees he needs to avoid an I-95 commute as well. Oh my, the dream job but coming from the south this is going to be hard to figure out! Please keep the suggestions coming!

I'd say Ridgefield, "upper" Wilton, and maybe Redding would be great towns that fit those commutation parameters.

Can you give me an idea of the commute time from these towns? Thanks!

When my aunt lived in Georgetown(Wilton side), it was taking her a little under an hour to get to Tarrytown via the backroads. She stood away from Rt.7,15 and 95,684. She did use the highways when there were winter storms though.
Ridgefield is a few minutes to the west, Redding is a few minutes to the north and east.

Their are only two homes currently on the market in those towns listed that would meet your sq footage and Age requirement (i used 10 years old or less) thought all those towns do have good schools.

I'm not sure what the EXACT commute would be but around 50 min with NO traffic for Ridgefield, a little longer for Redding and for Wilton about 50 min as well.

Thanks for this information. WOW, only 2 homes currently on the market certainly lessens my choices! I will explore this further. Any other suggestions?

Note that realtor.com doesn't list everything, particularly, new subdivisions that are under construction.

As much as it pains me to say it, consult with a realtor on what's available.

Also, i wouldn't automatically dismiss the "older" homes. Many people have dumped lots of $$$$$$$$ into renovating/expanding their homes. Plus(?), you gain a certain element of character that doesn't exist in a cookie-cutter new sub.

Default Try weichert.com search engine

It will give you sq ft on most properties, you can search by county, price, no of bedrooms, etc. Very user friendly. I usually check that with a yahoo/maps page open at the same time to check commute times.

Thanks for the weichert reality suggestion, I was having trouble finding a user friendly site. We have been in a job search mode and I am really getting tired of all this!

What's wrong with Hastings-on-Hudson, Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown or Irvington in Westchester? I wouldn't wish the 287 commute on anyone.
