Default Simsbury, Avon, Farmington and Granby questions

Hi - I have been internet searching info about the area around East Granby (dh has a job interview there) to see what the schools are like.

I have a child going into 6th and two going into 4th, so schools are a big thing for us.

Before he gets too far into an interview process we try to decided if it's "right" for us.

So, if we were to continue to look at this area, is one of the school districts I mentioned in thetitle better than another? Would any be just as good as each other or does one stand out from that list?

The school district we are currently in (in the midwest) has good academics and good athletic programs too. It also offers Spanish daily from 1st grade up but we don't offer elmentary musical instrument classes like many other states. So, not sure the continuation of Spanish matters - if music was offered (we only have recorders as part of music class 2-3 times a week).

Our district is also very large - graduating class of about 600. The has it advantages and disadvantages, so that size wouldn't be too bad but smaller is good too.

Thanks for any input and thoughts you may have (or other districts to look at too)

I graduated from Simsbury High School in 1981. 493 students in our class. Our class was ranked in the top one percent when compared to the rest of the school systems in the country. Our best students went to the Ivy League schools, MIT, Middlebury, etc.
Someone recently posted the Simsbury CAPST scores were the highest in the Hartford area.

Best to contact each individual school system to get the real details.

East Granby has the smallest schools and their good as well. Nice town.

Simsbury prolly scores the best but it's not for everyone as i have a hard time finding the draw their as the lack of highway access and major shopping annoys me some.

Avon has a Great school system as well as farmington.

You could check Granby too!! They have a great system and its smaller and a very community feel. Good sports teams as well.

Simsbury scores the highest but not by tons...all these towns are pretty equal as schools go.

East Granby/Granby have the closest highway access via route 20.

Farmington would be the furthest from East Granby and would be at least a 30 min commute if NOT MORE...

HTH

All four of these towns have excellent school systems. They are among the best in the state and that means something since Connecticut is so highly regarded in its public education system. For information on each system, check the links below.

IMHO, you can not go wrong with any of these town's schools. It is more a matter of the type of community you would feel best living in. Avon is probably the most upscale of these. Farmington is a bit more mixed as is Simsbury. Granby is a bit more rural in character but has some of the friendliest people I have met in the State. Each one is nice and would be a great place to raise kids.

I can not answer your question about languages offered but I would be surprised if one of these towns did not offer both. Here in Glastonbury they do and the towns you are looking at are comparable. Jay
