Question Possible move to Hamden, Connecticut for school

I have never been to Connecticut. Can anyone offer any advice as to what areas might be nice to live in? Is there a lot of crime in Hartford or Connecticut, in general? If so, what areas is the crime in?

Hartford is one of the worst cities in the country.
In our little town, it's very safe---kids play "flashlight tag" after dark in the summer, my sons jog at night around the neighborhood. Main highway is 1.5 miles away. Close enough to get somewhere, not too close to intrude. Many towns in CT are like this. We love it here.

Question Why is Hartford so bad?

What about Hamden? Is that better than Hamden? What's so bad about Hartford?

Hamden has some very nice areas, but also some not so nice. I don't know about their schools. Where are you from? Will you be renting? Or buying? What is your budget? Projected lifestyle?
Hartford schools are awful, the city has lots of shootings, drugs, etc. People try to escape from Hartford, not move to it.
