What about Maine are you trying to find down here? Smaller friendly cities? Shoreline? or Woodsy?

Hi Fxtrader- Your name suggest you are a fixed income trader?? You should check out Darien. Darien is 45 minutes to NYC by train, is a coastal community, and is in the top 5 for best schools in all of CT. Darien is also the second wealthiest town in the entire country (New Cannan is first but the train ride is a drag) If you have the money..you can't go wrong in Darien.

Tough question! I am from northern maine and prefer the country, my wife is from a popular tourist town on the coast of southern Maine. So I know she will eventually win out so hopefully living near the coast will not be to far from the country.

You might consider the Town of Fairfield. It is on the coast and has a small town feel even though it is a larger town. Plus homes there are more affordable than the other lower Fairfield County towns. Jay

I agree with Mystic, also Branford, Old Saybrook, Guilford and Madison. IMO Fairfield County is pricey and not relaxed. You can get much more for your money east of New Haven and still have easy access to NYC.

Anyplace east of the Ct river will feel more like maine and be much less expensive than fairfield county. You can do the commute to Manhatten from there as well. take the train out of Old Saybrook or you could drive but it will take about 3 1/2 hours ea way. On fridays the commute home will be even longer.

I have a friend that lives in Mystic and at one time the father of a woman I know owned a very nice condo right on the water in downtown Mystic. It's a nice small town that offers more affordable housing options than Fairfield County. And the areas just north of I 95 will be pretty rural.
