Default From Maine moving to Connecticut

My wife and I are from Maine, but have been living in NJ for the last 4 years after I was transfered to Philadelphia. I am now being transfered to NY city and planning on moving to Connecticut. We are both very excited about getting back to New England. I actually found out that I have cousins from both my mother and father's side in the Orange and Hartford areas. Any suggestion on area's we may find similar to Maine?

Connecticut as a southern New England state will be more densely populated then Maine- the only part of CT that will resemble Maine will be eastern CT & parts of northern Fairfield county- and also Litchfield county.

Well, the area that is commutable to NYC is pretty built up, but there are still towns that are rural in character. It depends on how long of a commute you want, and not all towns have a train station. Have a look at; Easton, Weston, Redding, Bethel, New Canaan. There are also parts in Greenwich that have a woodsy character but the town itself is built up.

I'll give you a simplistic guideline. In Fairfield County the least congested neighborhoods are those that are north of the Merritt Parkway(Rt.15).

As you travel from south to north in FFD County, density/commercialism decreases.

Smile NO Red Hot Dogs in Connecticut

Its hard to compare Maine to Connecticut. It all depends on how much money you are willing to spend. The closer to NYC the more expensive. Greenwich proprty tax is low but the prices of homes is very very high. Stamford homes are cheaper but the taxes are very very high. Darien, Rowayton, Westport all have nice towns and are close to the water. (I guess it depends where in Maine you are from)

I think most of Fairfield County is EXTREMELY "woodsy" in look and feel, as compared to many suburban areas I've lived in before. I think with as many people here, the growth has not gone out of control like many other areas.

The worst "offenders" in Fairfield County are Norwalk and portions of the Bridgeport area--Trumbull and of course Bridgeport itself is quite urban blighted and not-so-green at all.

Anyway, I always marvel at Fairfield County when driving around. To me, it feels like a county with 200,000 people in it--not 925,000...(with the exception of traffic on I-95 and the Merritt)

Some people commute to NYC via the Harlem line of Metro-North from Kent, Sharon, and Sherman CT. Depending on where you live in those towns a Metro-North station is about a 10 minute drive. Very rural.

Southern CT, as part of the Tri-State area, is still a part of metro NY and will therefore feel like metro NY and not Maine.

Nothing in CT feels like Maine to me.
