I hope this answers the OP's original question of comparing cities to cities.

Great post. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

I will still stand by what I have always said. In Hartford (and most major cities really) if you don't go looking for trouble and stay out of areas you know that are bad or don't look nice, you probably will never have an issue ever.

I agree. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree with the others. Jay

You write off the population of an entire city because of the actions of a few people??? This isn't a movie, this is real life. It just doesn't make sense.
To all my hard working family and friends in Bridgeport, Waterbury, and New Haven ignore the comments of some of the people in this forum. Have pity on them. They live sheltered lives.
I'll be in at least two of those cities this weekend enjoying the company of my family. I can't wait.

Reason- Just because these cities have high crime doesn't mean hardworking, decent people don't live there. In fact, nobody suggested this on the thread. I too know many people in Bridgeport and New Haven that are great people who hold excellent jobs. But the proof is in the pudding that these cities have among the highest crime in the nation. It's no secret.

Kansas City, MO has had 19 murders so far in the month of August. Probably a couple more on the way before the month is out. Per capita speaking I suspect KC has more murders than Hartford or New Haven.
I can recall in the 80's and 90's when Hartford and Bridgeport were seeing something like 50 murders or even more in some years. I don't believe it has been that bad in recent years.

actually hartford had only 1 year (1994) when they reported 55 murders. Media hype can really skew perception vs. reality. You are correct that the numbers recently are no where near that.
