Let's just say he's starting out by giving a bad first impression.
I suspect there is far more anarchy in the cities of California and along the border with Mexico than Connecticut's cities and towns.
Currently I reside in Kansas City and I've experienced the "California attitude" here first hand over the years and during my stay in Denver. There's a legitimate reason why so many western states have nothing but disdain for the newcomers from California that move to their cities and states.

We understand that it may be a drastic change but we vacation on the east coast each year so we kind of know what to expect but of course there is the cons and pros of moving out of CA.
Such as the beach, Disneyland, The Zoo, all that stuff...but honestly, we rarely visit these places because it costs money. Anything that you do here in San Diego puts a dent in your wallet. We're more of an "outdoor" couple.....I love fishing, she likes the country, etc...that sorta thing
I've been lurking on this site for a long time and I know that I can find some honest answers from the locals. Thanks everyone !

I was under the impression that most of CT rooted for the Pats. Looks like I have alot to learn

A good percentage of CT residents are Pats fans, but once you get toward southern CT there are a lot of Giants and Jets fans.
(Oh boy, hope I didn't spark another one of those BOS/NY terroitory threads)
A lot of young people are moving out to CA from this area (incl. my friends from college), but I've noticed most are moving back to raise their families.

Thanks for the additional info Pucker
Connecticut is a small state- if you are looking for reasonable housing costs stay out of southwestern Connecticut.
Greater Hartford and eastern CT-especially the latter have some great deals for new single family homes in woodsy smaller towns- close to the shore and more.

If you love fishing and she likes the country, CT is probably the perfect place for you. Plenty of lakes, in addition to the sound, and most of CT while suburban still has a country feel.
As for theme parks etc - you have the excellent Bronx Zoo (free on Wednesdays I believe) about an hour and a half from central CT, closer from western CT. There is also Six Flags in Agawam MA (just over the CT border) and Six Flags in NJ with a drive-through safari. On a smaller scale there is Lake Compounce with the oldest wooden roller coaster in the nation, Quassy in Middlebury (mostly for little kids) and Playland in Rye, NY.
You're also smack in between Boston and NY - southern CT being on the Metro North commuter rail into Grand Central, and northeastern CT being closer to Boston (geographically and culturally). You can day trip in NYC, Boston, Newport and Providence, RI, Cape Cod, the Hamptons on LI, Jersey Shore, and anywhere in CT. Beaches in eastern CT are rustic and pristine, and the water will be warmer than the Pacific. In extreme southwestern CT, on a clear day beach goers can enjoy a view of the Manhattan skyline. Only downside is a lot of the beaches in CT are private - so unless you lived in a shoreline town with resident access only, you will probably have to go to a state park - Sherwood Island in Westport is great, to name one.

Excellent to know..I noticed a poster above mentioned that "California attitude". Its unfortunate but even us California natives receive the same kind of 'tude.
The materialistic attitude and egos of most Californian's give the rest of us a bad rap. We're not all like that, and believe it or not, we're also not all surfers
Anyways, we want to live and raise a family in a smaller town, in the country, and a lot safer area then where we are now. The crime is getting out of control due to certain reasons that I won't get into here.
Again, thanks for all the quick feedback. It definitely helps

Very true. Eastern CT is the most affordable area in CT.

I just took a cruise through Europe with my GF and on the ship were TONS of Californians. They were nothing but friendly - friendlier than most New Englanders and even Midwesterners.

So you don't like the OP giving a bad first impression by suggesting their might be anarchy in CT based on a description his boss gave him even though they are asking locals for their thoughts, indicating he doesn't really believe the exaggeration? Then you turn around and "suspect" there is anarchy in CA? That's fairly hypocritical there, not liking what the OP thought about CT but then applying those same thoughts to CA yourself.
What exactly is the "CA attitude" as well? And is it coming from natives or transplants who moved to CA then moved out ? Because there is difference to how CA natives are and those longtime transplants that think their CA natives. A lot of people move to CA, forget where they came from, then act like they are so cool b/c they live in CA. Most people in CA, especially natives, are not like that generally.

Another thing on our pro vs. con list to moving to CT: The idea that we can drive to NY, Boston, etc...
