That is certainly your choice-
might I say-good luck in your trip across the country- I wish you and your family the best -- when are you moving?
I forgot what part of the state of California are you from?
In any case- enjoy your new home here, your help to others here is priceless- there is a gal on the Mass forum who moved to outside of Boston from SoCal last year---

San Diego born and raised, not on the playground where I spent most of my days, I was never chillin out, maxin, relaxing all cool, or shooting some b-ball outside of school....sorry got carried away there with the Fresh Prince theme
Anyways, the wife and I plan on moving about this time of next year in '09. The wife is in her final year at Cal State so after that we're out of here
*Edit* Thought you were referring to me* ( my bad )

Thanks for the update
You need to change your data on the upper right
I have not been to Seattle in many years- one of my favorite cities
I like Portland Or as well- Eugene Or is beautiful and bohemian
Been to Corvallis, wonderful town-also Ashland, Crater Lake
been to Eureka Ca--- Also Mendocino- Fort Bragg---
Also the PCH from SF bay area to south-with no fog!
Your first impressions here to help your fellow Californian in this post???

Yes, that does sound ridiculous. Even within Fairfield County, which is the most expensive county in the state, you could get an apt. in a safe, clean neighborhood for $1500. Good luck with your search and feel free to start a new thread if this one continues down the road that it's going(Please folks, hold your DM's. I'm not pointing fingers, just stating the obvious: The thread is getting a little juvenile).

Well first off, welcome to the Nutmeg State.
Coming from Cali to CT may be a bit of a transition at first. The state's largest city (Bridgeport) has only 140,000 people, whereas that's the size of a typical town in SoCal - especially those in greater LA and SD. (I have family in the SF Valley area in Oak Park, and my dad's brother was living in Rancho Santa Fe until recently, so I know that area well. I love to surf at Huntington Beach but I couldn't call it my permanent home.) There's plenty to do here but it's not as vibrant or as busy as SoCal.
I don't recall whether or not you said you have kids or plan to, but if you do I can give a few suggestions that might be of interest to you. If you're moving to Hartford county, check out Simsbury, Canton or Farmington if you'd like something with a strong, rural feel to it. If you want something a bit more suburban, look into Wethersfield, Newington or West Hartford (where I live). All are nice towns with excellent schools and attractive downtown areas. You may also want to give Glastonbury a look. I personally am not crazy about it but it is a nice town nonetheless.
If you still want something more rural, eastern CT is the place to go. There are many nice, small towns here with solid schools. If this is your location, pay a visit to Mystic once you're settled. This place is a treat! I'm not too familiar with eastern CT but I can tell you Pawcutuck and Stonington are decent and worth a look.
Hope that helps.

I don't think there's an anarchy in CT - You have enough a population turnaround that there's a mix of everything.
Here is some lyrics which pretty much holds true:
"We all know that people are the same where ever we go
There is good and bad in everyone,
We learn to live, we learn to give
Each other what we need to survive together alive."
Ebony and Ivory - Paul McCartney / Stevie Wonder
But then again one has CT in all its "glory"
