Personally I would not purchase a home in Waterbury due to the taxes they are outrageous!

Maybe, maybe not though. If you make an apples to apples comparison of similar-sized(not similar-priced) properties, you'll probably find that the tax bill is quite similar to what it is in the 'burbs. Automobile/Personal Property taxes however, will typically be much higher in the cities than in the suburbs.

I did do some comparison within the past few months the mil rate is outrageous and yes the houses are just a little cheaper than in my area but the taxes blew the deal for me when they were $6500 on a house $159k and like 1300sqft. LOL i'm just saying it got too crazy in my opinion I couldn't imagine paying 541. in taxes a month! I have had family move from Naugatuck to Waterbury and there car insurance just about doubled so yes you are right there.
