Default How is Farmington?

About to finalize a lease in Farmington, found a really nice apartment. It is a couple miles north from the center on Rt. 4. Working for a firm in Hartford but need to go to Waterbury everyday for the first year. This seems like a great spot for both. I like being rural but also close to what West Hartford has to offer.

Anything I might be missing?

I haven't been in CT long but from what I have seen and heard, Farmington is a desirable place to live....

West hartford is nice too. It is just a little more Urabn than Farmington. They are both great towns. Farmminton is more suburan and quiet. West Hartford has arealy great down town.

Farmington to Hartford will have traffic if you are going via rt4 to I84 - it's just a fact of life commuting from that direction. Going to Wtby will pretty much be a reverse commute so I wouldn't worry too much - although there is the highway construction when entering Wtby.

Sounds like you are into the Unionville section of Farmington. Still nice, but not the "big money" side of town or the history side of town. If you don't care about that, all is well. Unionville is sort of a village inside of a town - something you see commonly around here left over from Colonial days.

Good luck!

Avoid Route 4 (from I-84 to the center of Farmington) during peak travel times.

Quick question regarding Unionville so I don't open a new topic. As far as school districts and property taxes are concerned Unionville is considered part of Farmington right? Since someone said above it is a village within a town.

In Connecticut there are often many old small villages that have become part of one town. Most will have a road marker telling what part of the town it is but it is all the same town government.

Excellent point. Hamlets and villages usually have a road sign with an outline of the state of Connecticut: View from highway - Photo - Brooklyn highway sign Community of Brooklyn, Connecticut. Connecticut State Route 169 National Scenic Byway A drive down Route 169 will instantly transport you to another era. The spectacular views are due to property owne

Towns and cities usually have a road sign at their town line. The signs include the year in which the town/city was incorporated: View from highway - Photo - Woodstock highway sign Community of Woodstock, Connecticut, incorporated 1686.
