More questions about traveling through CT
I'll be traveling on I-95 from the NY state line and exiting at #90. Can anyone provide me with information I should have regarding construction, where the slow spots are and what time, etc..? How much is gas per gallon right now. I did look at the Connecticut Department of Transportation webpage and found alot of good information but I would like a regular motorist's point of view. The webpage is great; hats off to the designer. Very appreciated!

The price of gas this morning at the Mobil on the Wilbur Cross Expressway in Orange was $3.779 for regular unleaded. I've noticed a few other stations creeping up as a result of Ike.
If you know where you'll be stopping, you could check www.gasbuddy.com.

95 is ALWAYS slow going. It's the worst highway in CT for traffic.
AVOID rush hour particularly.

To the OP:
If you're coming up M-Th, i'd say it would be best if you entered Connecticut not later than 3:00 p.m.. On a Friday, not later than 2:00 p.m. If you're looking for the smoothest ride, adjust the above times by a couple of hours.
On the return trip, M-F i would leave Mystic between 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to avoid the heaviest traffic in Ct.
Sat/Sun. is a mixed bag. Usually not terrible, but traffic tends to bog down after 4:00 p.m. on Sun. going southbound.

Is there an alternate into Mystic? I'm coming up from the Tappan Zee Bridge. Probably won't get to the NY/CT state line until after 7pm on the 26th. Thanks!

The traffic really tapers off by 7, it actually shouldn't be bad. However, you might want to check whether or not you're going to be encountering heavy traffic in NJ and NY if you're coming through there in the mid-late afternoon.
95 is the most logical choice into Mystic, but you could come into Ct. via the Hutchinson Pkwy in NY, and travel about 35 miles on the Merrit Parkway(Rt.15), and then hop on the Milford Connector to I-95. The transition from Rt.15 over to I-95 is very easy to follow(not confusing). Do be cautious when you make the merge onto 95 though as the on-ramp directly precedes an off-ramp.

I was going to suggest this also. The Merritt is a nicer drive (with no trucks) and less traffic than 95. Plus you'd be missing the worst stretch of 95, between Greenwich and Bridgeport. Coming over the Tappan Zee, it would be easier for you to take the Hutchinson Pkwy/Merritt Pkwy which you can access from 287 once you cross the bridge.
Have a nice trip

I really appreciate the advise everyone has given me. I'm leaving Lancaster, PA around 3:30 and hope to be in Mystic by 10pm. I never did this drive before so that explains the thousand questions. Thanks again.

Just my two cents - My family is from York, PA and have family in a spot of CT a bit further north of there- we take I-81 to I-84 into Conneticut, you skip all that NYC traffic, and its a beautiful way to go (Especially in a couple of weeks, when the leaves turn). Not sure what a good way to get to I-95 from I-84, but it might be a better route. It takes us 7 hours to get past the Hartford area (We do speed a bit). Just a thought, have a great trip!
