Taking a job in West Haven
I've taken a job in West Haven and I know NOTHING about the area. I'm looking for a (generally) quite area to live. Any suggestions? How's the eating, shopping, theater...?

Food will be good if you go into New Haven. You will fall in love with Pepe's and Sally's pizza on Wooster street. There are lots of good restaurants as well as theatre. There are several shopping malls in the area including the CT Post Mall.
If you are looking to find a quiet area to live, Orange and Woodbridge are nice. Some parts of Milford are nice but, if you want peace and quiet, don't live near Route1 which is a heavily traveled road that follows I95 up the coast. Most of the shopping is along that route. I don't know much about the city of West Haven itself because I've only driven through on my way to New Haven.

I would live in Milford for the best of that area. Very safe town has everything including a nice lively green.

One thing I do miss from the area is great italian food. I can't find that all that well in Raleigh.

West Haven has some really nice neighborhoods by the water if you can afford it. Head over to Chick's by the beach and get a lobster roll combo. Great food. There is also a great Italian pastry shop right off of Captain Thomas Blvd.
As posted before, Rte 1 can be a mess. Best to stay away from that if possible.
Milford is nice but home prices are higher there on average, than in West Haven.
I am pretty familiar with the New Haven area. Drop me a line if you want more.

Food and entertainment should not be an issue what so ever! The rest i dont know much about since i moved from New Haven 6 yrs ago. Everytime i go back all i see is congestion on the roads and people. Very crowded!
I actually ate many times at pepe's and sallys, i went to high school right across the street when it was Career high school! I miss that!

I am in CA and only visit CT and I have even eaten at Pepe's and Sally's countless times! Anytime I get to CT, I make it a point to go to Pepe's or Sally's, then Libby's for dessert. Pizza in CA doesn't even come close to what you can get at Pepe's or Sally's and most people gross out in CA when I tell them how awesome the clam pizza is from Pepe's. Sorry, I can't contribute to the rest of the questions, but I am now dreaming about their pizza and I couldn't help but chime in

I moved from New Haven, CT in 1980 and still have very fond thoughts of Pepes and Sally's.
Sorry I can't contribute about West Haven either!

Living in West Haven, Connecticut
Though I don't live there now I have fond memories of West Haven. My daughter still lives there in fact. West Haven has everything one would need.....It is crowded, very diverse, has good restaurants there and of course in the Greater New Haven area, you will sit in traffic ..... welcome to the Northeast lol....... You are within striking distance of New York City and Boston.....My favorite...Red Sox Nation !!!! In an hour youy can be out in the country...Litchfield county......Energy costs are high.....Real Estate is costly though you can find reasonable rents for the area in West Haven......What doesn't cost a lot in the Northeast.....It is a good experience to live and work here for awhile and then like I did........ GET OUT !!!!! Hope this helps

Try East Haven, and the area east of New Haven less crowded and congested.
Also Haddam and East Haddam as well as Portland. Many pleasant surprises.
