Default lots of questions about Branford

Hello! My family and I are considering a move to Branford. I'd love to know your opinion of the town. I'm looking for a coastal town with lots of outdoor activities. Is Branford the kind of town where you can walk out your front door and hike, bike, or kayak? Is it a pedestrian-friendly town? Is it safe for children?

We're also looking for kind, down-to-earth people.

We'd like to rent a small house for the first year, within walking distance to the beach if possible (between $1500-2000/month) Does anyone know how the rental market is?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Default On Branford

Hi, welcome.

I really love Branford, and it has a lot to recommend it. There are plenty of young people there, and a wide range of activities (beach, boating, tennis, cinemas, good restaurants, proximity to Guilford, Madison, and New Haven). It is safe for children and there is a low crime rate. The only disadvantage I can think of is the traffic on Route 1 in Branford. There are some highly commercialized areas along Route 1, which bring people in from I-95.

I'm not certain you'll be able to find a place to rent in your price range that will be within walking distance of the beach. Nevertheless, I suggest you look in the Stony Creek area for that (near Leetes Island Rd and School St). Keep in mind, you may be fairly near the railroad tracks and firehouse. But that is a beautiful little area, right near the Thimble Islands.

Best of luck -- don't hesitate to ask questions.
