Default Stamford middle schools

We are considering a move to Stamford from New York City. I have 2 elementary-age children. I feel confident that I can find a good elementary school in Stamford, but when looking ahead to middle school things seem a little bleak. Can anyone give me the straight scoop on Stamford middle schools? I know that the reputation is pretty poor but I know that's not always the whole story.

Thanks...that is helpful. But I am also looking for some real-life experiences with middle schools in Stamford. Statistics are great but I'd also like to get a sense of what things are like "on the ground". Any ideas?

Stamford middle schools are not terrible, by any means. As comparing to NYC schools, and most other states' schools, they are very good. The problem in Stamford is the superintendent of schools, Joshua Starr. He is only 36, has never really taught in a real school system, lives in Brooklyn, and has driven teacher morale into the toilet during his tenure. He runs the schools like a corporation, establishing "red tape" in getting a lot accomplished.
The school board here is pretty clueless, and most of them, with the exception of one or two individuals, think he is "god" since he graduated from Harvard University. It's really a bad situation right now.
My partner's father (who was the vice principal of Stamford HS back in the late '90s) is running for school board this fall, in hopes of bringing much-needed change.
That's what I know about Stamford schools, in general. A lot of outstanding teachers are being forced to look elsewhere due to Josh Starr's ineffective leadership. I think once he is out, things could get better.
