I have landed a job at the Baystate medical center. My wife and I are planning to rent either an apartment or house before buying. We are planning to buy in either Longmeadow or East Longmeadow.

My wife and I are Canadians in our mid-30's. We have no kids. We are looking for a place that is nice and safe. Ensuite washer and dryer would be nice but not essential. Because of work, I'd like a place that is within 20 min. of Baystate. We have visited Northhampton. While we really like the town, I think the commute is a little too far for me.

I did some research on the net, and found "park edge apt" in longmeadow and "Bigelow Commons" in Enfield, CT. Some people thought that Bigelow commons is a bit unsafe. Is it true? Has anyone got any experience with park edge apartment in Longmeadow?

Any other suggestions for rentals? We are looking for a 2-bedroom apartment or a house. The max we want to pay is $2000.

Also, after we get down there, the first things we will have to do are opening a bank account, get cellphones/internet connections. Which cellphone carriers have the best coverage/plan? Any recommendation regarding banks?

We will be making another short trip to western MA later this month to look for housing.

Bigelow has had a lot of Car Break ins.
It's not the best area of Enfield.

Anything in Longmeadow will be great. Nice town, no bad areas. Very high end and a large jewish population incase your looking for a religious aspect to it.
