What about Woodbridge?
Checking out Woodbridge. What's the town like? Schools? People? Are the sections near New Haven bad?
We're really interested in Oxford but checking out nearby towns. We've looked at Southbury, Brookfield, Woodbury, New Fairfield, Ridgefield and Newtown. We didn't like Monroe. Route 25 through town isn't at all attractive. We keep coming back to Oxford.
Thanks

I know quite a few people who went through the schools there. The elementary schools are in town and very good with many programs. Jr. high and high school is the Amity school district, shared with Orange and Bethany.
The sections near New Haven aren't bad as in unsafe, but aren't as nice looking as other parts of Woodbridge. Most of Woodbridge has larger lots and bigger homes and is generally affluent, while the area adjacent to New Haven (say Merritt Ave for instance which is probably the least desirable area in Woodbridge) has smaller homes on very small lots.

I've lived in Woodbridge for 15 years and had 2 kids grow up here.
It's a quite bedroom community with no business/retail clutter. Open space. hiking/biking trails, quite town center, upscale - without being too rural.
Very close to New Haven (10 mins). New Haven downtown is now very nice with retail and tons of nice retaurants, pubs, etc. Great theater, and Yale offers all sorts of interesting programs for adults and kids.
Very close to the Boston Post Rd with all of the major retail stores you'll ever need (10-12 mins), yet far enough away not to pollute your living experience.
Easy access to Merrit Pkwy toward either NYC or Hartford, or even rte 95 north.
Overall GREAT location in terms of having quiet living with easy access to everything.
I would prefer a little more in town - maybe a coffee shop, deli, or something to afford a gathering spot for locals. Kids need rides wherever they are going.
Great town to raise kids. Elementary school (only one) has been great. The jr high was just rebuilt, however like nearly every town in the country, the jr high is the weakest link. Our kids wanted more at that point...
The High School (Amity) is among the best in the state, and kids matriculate to every level of college available. We chose to use private Boarding High Schools in Ct, of which there are many. There are several fnatastic "day school" facilities within 20-30 minutes. If private school is something you consider, you can't beat them.
All of the kids we know who have been through Amity appear to have enjoyed it and were challenged.
Sports activities are varied and succesful for the kids. Good programs starting at a young age, and the high school has some of the best teams in the state.
I like Oxford - just a little too secluded for us. A little tougher to get places in Ct.
I travel the entire state very actively. I would have to rate Woodbridge highly overall.
