Default Help with Branford Neighborhoods

My family is relocating from DC to Branford in January. We're looking to rent a house for a year or so until we get the lay of the land, but that leaves us without a realtor to decipher the areas. There are plenty of rentals in our price range (up to $2K) but I have no idea which neighborhoods might be best. We have a 2 year old, so we'd like a family friendly area and preferably like to be able to walk to a park or the town center since we're used to being in the city.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions for neighborhoods or specific rentals. Thanks a lot!

Branford as a whole is safe. There are a few high-traffic areas to be avoided with a small child, such as Route 1 and Cedar St. I would suggest living near the Branford Green. There are some rental places nearby -- just be careful about streets with "frat houses" like Bradley Ave (there is no actual frat, but there might as well be). If you can find a place between Main St. and Route 1, that would likely be a good location. Streets like Silver St. and Chestnut St. come to mind.

There are many other parks in Branford aside from the town Green, so you could check those out too. Foote Memorial Park is very nice, so perhaps look in that area as well. Woodlawn Ave. or its side streets would work well. The neighboring area of Indian Neck has a small commercial district, although it's most active in the summer.
