Default Considering Relocation

Hi I am new to the forum. I am thinking about relocating to CT, I live in Long Island NY at the moment and it is quite expensive to live here, and I need to consider moving. I would like to know what the job market is like in CT, housing, ect. I am a PC Technician by trade, but can do other things. I would be looking for a 1-2 bedroom apartment for two people. Thanks in advance for any help and advice!!!

You would have a lot of choices here so we would need a bit more information to help you. First, do you need to be near New York City? If so, that will place you in the heart of expensive Fairfield County. This area is probably more expensive than LI so you would not save much. Taxes are generally lower though.

That said, if you are willing to give up being near NY, then you should consider either the Hartford or New Haven areas. These are great small cities with a lot to offer including employment options. New Haven is about 2 hours from NY so you could still go there when you want. If you give us moe information on what you are looking for, we could help. I hope this helps. Jay

Thank you. My children are in NY, but a 2 hr drive I can handle. I am looking for a cheap but (obviously) decent apartment in a good neighborhood, and as i said, I am a PC Technician by trade, but any decent paying job will do. Also, are there drug stores in the area? (CVS, Walgreens, like that). I am not sure what other info you need, so if you need more let me know. Thanks again.

Lots of CVS, walgreens around here. Hartford area will probably be most affordable. I'm thinking Manchester or Vernon area possibly for you. Lots of apartment rentals, fair prices and both are good places to live. Newington or West Hartford also come to mind.

You might want to check out the Stratford/Milford area or the Naugatuck Valley (Shelton, Ansonia, Seymour), both areas straddling Fairfield and NH Counties. The cost of living is affordable compared to Fairfield County and it is only about an hour and a half drive to NYC. There are many nice neighborhoods in all of these towns.

There are plenty of drug stores around - I know they are building a new Walgreens in Seymour too.

Good luck

I think you need to tell us what part of Connecticut you're interested in learning more about. The state is not huge, but it's 5,000 square miles of diverse urban, suburban, and rural areas. It would be impractical to list good "neighborhoods" or "areas" without you giving us a better sense about where in Connecticut you want to relocate (e.g., Hartford area, New Haven area, Naugatuck Valley, southeastern Connecticut, Fairfield County, etc.). Also, where in New York are your children? If they're close to the Connecticut border, then the 2 hour drive condition would include most of Connecticut.

If you want to be about 2 hours from NY and need a lower priced area, I would suggestion either New Haven or central Connecticut (Wallingford or Middletown areas). East of New Haven has some very lovely charming towns. Check out Branford. In central CT, I would look at Wallingford or Middletown. These are nice towns with some very nice reasonable rentals. Good luck, Jay
