Default List of America's "Wealthiest" Cities Over 100k--2008

I thought this was interesting. "Bizjournals.com" ranked the cities in the US over 100,000 in population, from wealthiest to poorest, based on income and house values.

Interesting to note CT's cities ranked on the list:

(Rankings based on #1 through #261 cities over 100,000 in population)

#5 Stamford, CT
#168 New Haven, CT
#176 Bridgeport, CT
#181 Hartford, CT

bizjournals: Rank for 261 cities

Sorry if this has already been posted, as the report came out sometime in August of this year.

I find it odd to rate a city's wealth on income and house value data alone. What about cost of living indices, or the Federal poverty threshold?

Last Christmas I worked as an extra helper with a friend of mine on his garbage route in southern CT. I was born and raised in CT, but had never spent much time in these parts of CT (Fairfield, Westport, Weston, and a couple others). I couldn't believe my eyes.

Funny story, with it being Christmastime and because my friend works for a private garbage collection company, he was getting lots of tips at this of the year. It turns out that Keith Richards' house is on his route. When we got there one day (after going through the gate and driving past the guest house on the property), he told me stay in the truck while he got out and collected all of the garbage himself. I thought this was weird, but then I realized why he did this--Keith's wife gave him a $350 tip .

I saw all kinds of things in that part of the state that I have never seen before. From strange breeds of dog to 12-cylinder Audi's--you name they got it down there.

That is quite a tip, lol. We tip our regular private garbage collector very generously, but not that generously. But if you want to see the truly wealthy, check out New Canaan/Darien/Greenwich. Some people who I knew from work several years ago would ride around looking through resident's garbage there, looking for nice castoffs.

If they were to choose towns instead of cities to rank, Connecticut would have several towns topping the list, instead of just one.

In a list of the wealthiest towns in the nation, New Canaan, Darien and Greenwich were all in the top 10 I believe.

I forgot to add Waterbury, CT to the list. It comes in at #213.

I was surprised that Stamford was so high, and that CT didn't have any other cities in the top 100.

Those five would be all that we have with populations over 100,000 (about 17.78 percent of our population). Next on the list is Norwalk at 84,692.

What I meant was I'm surprised no other cities, besides Stamford, ranked in the top 100.

Have you ever been to the other 3?
I'm not surprised, Stamford Borders Greenwich, New Canaan & Darien. If it didn't it would rank with the others.
