ace,

good story..

bridgeport must have been something special in it's industrious day

I predict that bridgeport will once again become a great majestic city..but prolly not in our lifetime

It seems like mickey mouse is at the controls pushing the buttons right now and it's a political mess on all fronts..the taxes are so high/bad it's almost comical and unbelievable.

they even wanted to put a casino there it enough people opposed it to prevent it....I don't know how much revenue it would've brought..but b-port really need a lot of help...help it just ain't gettin

Hi, I lived in Bridgeport for almost my whole life, I went through the catholic school system. Moved down to Florida (Port St. Lucie) for 2 years and moved back up to Bridgeport, CT. (It was to hot) Bought a house in Stratford, CT, so my kids can go to a good school system but now it's was getting over crowded. I moved out of CT 6 months ago to northeastern PA. An I love it, Bridgeport, CT has changed so do some real good research and I wish you all the best of luck on your research.

If you have no children, then I'd say Bridgeport is a great place to buy. Lower home prices and no worries about public schools.
I used to live in Bridgeport (Black Rock), but after my son was born, I sold out and moved to Fairfield for the schools.

While single, Bridgeport was great for me. Now I'm old, but Black Rock is still a great spot for the bar hopping crowd.
And I think the North End has a few happening spots too, but if I had to move to Bridgeport, I'd look in Black Rock for sure.

Patty

I've lived in Bridgeport for the past 27 years. Bridgeport has been through some tough times, but it is in the process of revitalization. Developers have been pouring into the city and the biggest problem now is that there isn't enough commercial property for sale. There are more buyers than sellers, which is good for Bridgeport. We live in the Black Rock section, but recently my husband and I have started going to downtown Bridgeport on the weekends for dinner at Ralph & Rich's or Joseph's Steakhouse. We also enjoy going to the City Lights art gallery and to the former Polka Dot Theater (they renamed it and I can't remember the new name). One developer just spent $30 million to renovate the former CityTrust bank tower into 117 apartments and there are several other apartment buildings that are being created downtown. Downtown residents will attract more restaurants, entertainment, and cultural activities. There is a reason that Business 2.0 named Bridgeport as the third best place to invest in real estate. I sold my family home in 2005 for $725,000. I had paid $122,500 for it 20 years earlier. When I sold I could have moved elsewhere, but I bought in Bridgeport again. It's an exciting place to be right now. I think a number of people posting here are basing their comments on the Bridgeport of the past. Cities can turn around -- look at Baltimore or Providence, RI. It's happening here now. If you wait until the city is completely revitalized before making an investment, then you will pay top dollar.

I had a similar buying & selling experience (within 1 year on each of your dates) and had just about the same results. I agree with you wholeheartdly

Default Bridgeport is not a good place to live.

I lived in Bridgeport all my life. And let me tell you it is one of the worst places to live. The only places good to live in Bridgeport is near the places that border other towns like Fairfield,Trumbull,Stratford,.I live in the east side of Bridgeport. It is run by drug dealers.Bridgeport has the highest murder rate of all CT for 2006.I hear gun shots on a daily bases.Everytime they build something new here.It is either spray painted or broken into. The city is mostly section 8 families who do not respect the working class .The streets are dirty and the people are rude! I hope to move out of here soon before a stray bullet kills me or one of my family members.Yeah also the loud music from passing cars is another thing.I am Puerto Rican and i will be happy to pack and get the hell out this crap of a city.

I, too, have lived in Bridgeport my whole life--and not in some gilded St. Mary's/Brooklawn/Lake Forest section, but on the hill in Jlhct's old neighborhood.

The city is palpably on the cusp of a huge revival. We've got great historic architecture (27 National Register historic districts!), the best beaches in the state, and we are a restaurant town without parallel in this whole area (hey, I happen to like Brazilian rodizio and other esoteric ethnic places that Fairfield would abhor). Most of the people are great down-to-earth types and it's great to be a part of a real neighborhood instead of a cookie-cutter suburban subdivision. Plus I can hop on a train and be in midtown Manhattan in one hour and seven minutes (people in parts of The Bronx and Queens can't even do that).

When the restored downtown buildings are opened to tenants in about 60 days I think we will witness a revival like the one that completely transformed Brooklyn. Already New York people are buying up real estate in places like Washington Park and the South End. This is the type of city with grit and character that twentysomethings of today seem to crave.

Go walk the magnificent 2 1/2-mile shoreline of Seaside Park and tell me this city is nothing but Baghdad!!

Default Bridgeport diffrent face same problems.

Like i said lived in Bridgeport for 32 years .Bridgeport has made changes but the same problems still exist.High crime and drugs!I also have noticed the good areas of Bridgeport being slowly infected by drug dealing. My uncle bought a home here about ten years ago in a nice area of Bridgeport but he had to sell it because of the drug dealers moving in his street.I am also selling my home because of the drug dealing and disrespect of my property. And for those people who buy homes from New York in Bridgeport this is what they do.They come here buy multi family homes rent them out to section 8 families and collect the rent and go back to there real homes either in Trumbull or Stratford. These slum lords do not care they get there secured rent money from the state. The only thing Section 8 has done to my street is bring single mothers and there drug dealing boyfriends. The city does not care as long as they get there money from property taxes.Mostly all the projects they do here either failed or are minimum payed jobs with no medical insurance. The steel point project is a joke! Who wants to buy a condominium next to a waste treatment plant. And for those so called historical homes in Bridgeport another joke. This will be the second time they will fix them up.The first time they rented them out to drug dealers who almost burnt them to the ground.Oh, don't forget our city mayor who loves to buy cocaine from big time drug dealers. If you don't believe me just look it up on the net.It is funny that those people who run city hall do not live here.So if you think Bridgeport is a great place to live, please tell me who is your eye doctor so i can get an appointment.Oh the beach here is nice when the gangs are not there.Bridgeport is just a place were you can find cheap labor.
