I hope to move out of here soon before a stray bullet kills me or one of my family members.Yeah also the loud music from passing cars is another thing.I am Puerto Rican and i will be happy to pack and get the hell out this crap of a city.

NO
Don't judge Bridgeport by what you see from I-95 or hear on the news who like to sensationalize every event. Judge it by Black Rock or the North End or Treeland or Brooklawn or Seaside Park or Beardsley Park or any of the other many nice and wonderful places there are in that city. Is it perfect? No, but is it as bad as it is often portrayed? No, not really. JMHO Jay

I currently live in Bridgeport. Its pretty good, my complaints are the taxes are high and it doesn't have many good chain grocery stores like the surounding towns have. In my opinion this city has improved a lot in the past 10 years. Like any city it has its good and bad sections. A few pluses of the city is it is relatively close to NY, its the cheapest place to live in fairfield county. If you keep to yourself here you will be fine and stay out of certain parts especially at night you just have to be cautious.

Fairfield County as a whole, and Bridgeport particularly, doesn't have a wide selection of grocery stores. IMHO, we can thank Stop&Shop for this. When they were building their super stores, they were also "quietly" buying out leases of grocery stores that closed, and leaving those buildings empty. Town and City economic development heads have recently figured this out, and publicly chastised S&S for the practice of using holding companies to buy the leases and consequently, restrict tax revenues that would be generated if said buildings were occupied.
Perhaps this trend will now begin to change, as BigY built a new Stratford store earlier this year(note: this store has really ambitious prices ), and a ShopRite franchisee has expressed interest in building a store in Fairfield. We'll see............

I moved to Bridgeport (Black Rock section) two years ago. I really liked it at first. I live very close to the St. Mary's/LI Sound and would go walking there all the time. There are some good bars/lounges, etc. too.
I've posted this under other topics, but I moved here for graduate school two years ago. Only recently did I receive a letter from the City of Bridgeport informing me that they realized I was living in CT (though temporarily for school) while still driving a car that was registered to NY. I have been treated horribly over the past few months by the city. I am being investigated for tax liability for not having paid the ridiculous property tax on my car, which I was told I would not have to pay if I was only here temporarily for school. The city hired people to investigate me and they trespassed into my parking lot to take my information (their story). They have inaccurate information about me (wrong move-in date, etc.) yet I'm still probably going to have pay thousands of dollars. I have tried many times to reach someone but no one will return my calls.
I have also had problems with my apartment/landlord. I live in a building but I'm on the basement level so I have all the problems you would have with a basement. I have a terrible bug problem and I have lost over $2000 in belongings due to mold/mildew. My landlord got the exterminator twice but the last time he did, he wagged his finger in my face and told me he was never to going to call the exterminator again, that I was a big girl, and I should just deal with the bugs. I ended up having to call the department of health, who actually found some problems, but since my landlord is a president (or at least high up) on the board of realtors and knows every city official, nothing happened.
I seriously injured my back in April and am unemployed and facing surgery. I can't afford to pay my bill, let alone move out of this place, and I definitely can't afford to pay the thousands of dollars in taxes they say I owe.
I'm in a no-win situation and I hate it.

I don't live there, but I do go to college in downtown Bridgeport. I haven't experienced anything yet but I hope not to. I've heard a lot of negatives things about Bridgeport also. :/
