Hello!

I'm a single guy whose just accepted a job offer in Shelton, Ct and need to move to the area around the end of November so I was hoping to get some advice on where to live. Based on previous posts and other reasources I'm looking at either Shelton or Milford but thought I'd make my own post in hopes of a little more personalized advice. I'm thinking of renting and looking at budgetting $800-1100 a month for rent. Where are some good areas a single man in his twenties should be looking for in that ideal price range? A recommendation on good apartment hunting resources to use would be nice too.

Thanks.

Welcome to Connecticut. I think that Milford or Shelton would be good towns to look in. Check craigslist.com for listings. Good luck, Jay

Where are you coming from? We came from a very rural area of michigan and found it hard to adjust (we live in seymour now) but if you're coming from an urban area you'll be fine. Where we are (seymour/oxford/parts of derby) it's woodsy and rural, Milford will be more populated. The whole area near Shelton is quite nice, just don't get too close to Waterbury (naugatuck isn't too bad though) Ansonia and derby have some not as nice parts...but nothing close to as bad as waterbury's not nice parts!!

Depending on the size of the place and the area, your price range sounds realistic. I've found some nice places on craigslist-definitely start there

Thanks, I'll check craigslist for sure. I also got a private message directing me to connpost.com, a newspaper website, looks like there's a good number of listings there too.

I'm coming from Ithaca NY, a small upstate city of about 30,000 people which nearly doubles in size when college is in session (cornell university has about 20,000 students, ithaca college around 6,000 plus a couple other smaller school makes for nearly as many college students as permanent residents.) It's also in the middle of the woods with at least a 40 mile drive to find another city of reasonable size. But I should be fine with a bit more urbanization around as long as there's some nice walking areas to poke around in. A few less college goons around wouldn't be a bad thing either.

Depending on the timing of your commute, you might want to learn alternate routes as the Commodore-Hull Bridge can be backed up to Seymour in the morning.

We live in Oronoque (North Stratford), which is more or less between Shelton & Milford. If it comes down to a choice between those two towns - both of which are quite nice - I'd recommend Milford to a single guy, just for the greater options in watering holes, dining, etc.
