Default Multi-cultural Family in Stamford- HELP!

Hi, my family and I are considering moving to Stamford from South Florida. We are white with two biological daughters, and we recently adopted a baby girl from Ethiopia. We are looking for a liberal town that has access to NYC and beaches (I grew up on Long Island and know nothing about CT). My husband does not want to commute to NYC (been there, done that) so we like the idea of Stamford. Are there diverse families in the area? Is there a big socioeconomic gap between white families and black families? We are looking for an area that our daughter will not be the only black child in the class and an area where there are some upper, middle class African American families as well. We are worried about the schools but hear the magnate programs are great. Is this true? What about diverse private schools? Are the people in Stamford open-minded? Many questions, just trying to get a feel for the area. Love the idea of CT, but not sure!

The Stamford area is very open-minded and diverse. I'm constantly amazed at the different ethnicities I see in the mall, Target downtown, at the park, and just walking around.
I live on a cul-de-sac in middle-city Stamford, and in this particular cul-de-sac, there is 1 mixed race couple (African-American/White), several African American families, at least 2 or 3 Latino families, 3 Indian families, 1 Asian family, and 2 gay-partnered families (us included).
Stamford's public schools, especially Stamford high, is very mixed also. My partner taught there for 10 years, and he had a huge amount of diverse students.
Stamford is an excellent quality of life--very quiet, yet it has a bustling downtown. The proximity to NYC is very convenient--44 minutes by train. Long Island Sound borders the city--with several nice beaches to enjoy during the summer.
Stamford is a very educated city, and home to many large corporations. Again, it is a very open-minded city, with many diverse people living here with many different backgrounds.
