Come trekker...answer my question. I want to know if you know this from experience. I have gotten into all this in another post...you can read what I thought of it then and believe I still stand by it...From Conn to NC pay attention for pages 5-7...

This is not 1960's NC. This is not Mayberry. People here have not judged me at all over my decision to go or not go to church. In 2 years I have never been asked what my religion is. If that was what you encountered, then think about the people you choose to surround yourself with.

You never got asked your religion because it's assumed you are Christian...that's fine with me, but try and be something other than that.

Fake. Yes. As in, they will give you some food or say hello or whatever...watch what happens when you REALLY need them and/or get too close. It's all surface level, no depth.

When I bought my first house in Southington I did not know my neighbors at all. After 5 years there, I still could not tell you their names.

In CT we were judged by the kind of car we drove, name brand on our clothes, and size of our house.

Are you serious? Southing is as middle of the road you get. I have an in-law there and my business was located there for a couple years. No one there is like that. You either have insecurity issues, or are remembering wrong IMO.

If you are not used to someone smiling at you just to be friendly then it is time to take an inventory of your life.

I love driving down the road and just having people wave to me to be nice and I do the same to them.

Hey kd83, you having fun? Keep posting, this is good. And good luck in NC.

My wife and I have been exploring the possibility of NC since 1997, all the way from Asheville in western NC to Southport on the Cape Fear River, and just about everything in between. We have tried to fall in love with NC, and we just can't.

I'm getting older, it hurts to shovel snow, February is just a brutal month, but there is something bland about NC, and we finally realized our hearts were in New England. I would rather sit on a CT beach than a NC beach any day, but that's me.

First, you think people will bail on you in the south...when my mother passed away in CT. I had all of my neighbors here at 3:00 in the moring helping us get ready to head back to CT. When I came back from the funeral, my dogs were fed, dinner was in the fridge, my lawn was cut, and my house was clean.

Next, as for meeting my neighbors in CT, I personally went and introduced myself when we moved in. I never heard from them again. Most would not even wave back when I would wave to them. I have 2 children and was always outside. I saw them and made plenty of attempts.

Southington is middle of the road, and not for us. I was just trying to let kd83 know that there is some good in NC. You choose to live in CT and I choose to live in NC. Let it be that.
