Default Relocation to ct

I would like to relocate to CT, the cost of living in the suburbs of DC is just too high. I am looking at the Bristol area, the rents are much more pleasing to my budget. I have so many questions and I know that the people on Citidata will be able to provide me with the most honest and insightful answers. So here it is:

What is the commute like to Hartford?, I am a medical secretary and I think I would be able to find a job easily in Hartford.

Is there a commuter bus to Hartford from Bristol? Sometimes it is nice to take a break from driving.

What are the areas to avoid in Bristol?, I am a single female and I will be coming home late from school. ( I am hoping to be accepted to the UCONN BGE program)

Last question, are there other affordable areas besides Bristol? ( I think it would be wise to have some other options)

I appreciate any and all responses, Thanks

Hi Sal,

I have a cousin who is a Bristol police officer and he stays very busy there. It's not really a nice town, pretty high crime and very run down looking. Why not have a look at Glastonbury, CT? Very nice town, super reasonable commute to Hartford, buses and all. Wethersfield, CT isn't too bad either. Easy ride to Hartford, buses there as well.

You'll be fine in Bristol, but take a look around the different areas/towns you are considering to see where you are most comfortable. Don't be frightened off by one individual telling you not to live in Bristol. Bristol is a little further out from Hartford though so since you are renting you may also want to consider West Hartford, Newington, wethersfield, Manchester or Vernon. All of those towns have lots of rentals and you should be able to find something that meets your needs and would afford you an easy commute to Hartford. Good luck

I wasn't trying to frighten her, just giving her info that is real. I'm not saying Bristol is the worst town in CT, but it wouldn't be my first choice. There are better choices, as you pointed out. Getting to and from Bristol can be a pain as well. Look around.

Be sure to check salaries for you job in the area. DC pay is usually higher so though rents may be cheaper here, so may your salary. Jay
