Hi,

We're thinking about a move from the DC area to Hartford for a job for my husband. We have visited West Hartford and liked it -- we are looking for a family-friendly place (good schools, stuff to do) and we like walkable towns and city life. The issue is that in my field, my best bet for a job would be in New Haven. How is the commute to New Haven? Where could we live between Hartford and New Haven to minimize both commutes? Are there any nice areas in between?

Ideas?

Thanks!

Rocky Hill is a bit closer to Hartford but not terrible to drive to New Haven either...but Middletown may be what you are looking for. Finding a "West Hartford" in the middle of the I91 corridor is a bit tough.

For what it is worth they are currently constructing a commuter train that will run between New Haven, Hartford up to Springfield. However I don't think it is scheduled to be completed anytime soon. Currently amtrak runs their shuttle train on this route but the schedule isn't the best.

Rocky Hill or Cromwell would be great as a commute- it would save 15 minutes from West Hartford to New Haven. Both are fine towns- they do not have the downtown West Hartford has, but have fine neighborhoods with good schools, and ample shopping.
