Default Advice on Dog Boarding Facilities

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for advice on Dog Boarding facilities. I am relatively new the area and am unfamiliar with dog boarding facilities. I recently went to Planet Bark in West Hartford and was very disappointed - it was a far cry from the facilities I'm used to. I am located in Canton but, as I don't plan on using a boarding service very often, I am willing to travel to find a good place.

Two places I heard about: John Gagnon's in Colchester and Oronoque Kennel in Orange. Any opinions on either of those?

I would prefer a place where my dog has its own room and own private outdoor area, play time during the day with other dogs, and privacy.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

OK, I'm VERY attached to my dog (we're together 24/7) and I've done a TON of research on this very subject in the event that I do go away and need to board my furry friend.

Although I haven't been to the facility, I've heard rave reviews, spoken to John Gagnon himself, has exactly what I want in a facility (which includes the list that you've given) and just seems like an all-round great place. So my vote goes to John Gagnon's Dog House.

It's a trek to Colchester (I'm in West Hartford and, I agree, Planet Bark is NOT the place I'd want to board my guy, nor is that other place in West Hartford -- the new one whose name escapes me), but after all the research that I did, I'm more than happy to shlep to Colchester for boarding.

John Gagnon's in Colchester. I've placed my dogs there many times and one of my dogs goes to daycare there. The faciliites are clean, the staff is knowledgable and professional and my dogs get to stay in a room together. And they can go to daycare too where they have a huge fenced in area outdoors plus a huge indoor area. John's speciality is training & behavior so I trust their staff to keep all pets safe while at daycare.

I've been to other places (John Gagnon's fills up fast) and this is the nicest I've been to. It's worth the drive - about 45 minutes for you. They're right off Rt 2 in Colchester so it's convenient.

Check out uberdog in West Hartford--my dog gets to play in daycare all day when I board him. Really nice inside and out. Staff is very nice and knowledgeable.

I just moved from CT last year but would highly recommend Holiday Pet Lodge, 1065 W Dayton Hill Rd ,Wallingford, CT 06492 203 - 269 - 4222

When I first checked them out, I went and talked to many people who were picking up their dogs. I also went there by myself and with my husband unexpectedly and they were happy to give us tours even if they were cleaning. I was very happy with them.

This isn't in the area of the original poster but for anyone else who is interested.....I just took my dog to a really great new place called Paws Pet Resort in Cheshire. Awesome rooms for dogs with funny themes (an NFL suite, a Strawberry Shortcake suite etc), web cams in the higher priced suites. Their optional playtime is 90 mins long with dogs grouped by size and temprament. A few daily walks are included. Unbelievably clean too.

I always suggest Planet Bark in West Hartford to colleagues and friends. I have taken my dog there for 2 years. The new owner is so nice and the staff is extremely professional. The facility is large, clean and convenient. Worth checking out......
