Default Restaurant recommendations

My family and I will be visiting my son who is currently stationed at Groton for sub school and A school.

Does anyone have recommendations for a nice, kid-friendly restaurant? My kids are 8 and 6, so they don't run around anymore, but they would disturb folks in an adults-only environment. My husband and 20-yo love steak.

We'd like to have a nice place to go for Christmas.

There are a number of restaurants in Groton. If you're looking for family-oriented restaurants, there's The Spot on rt. 12, along with chains like Applebees and 99 on that same road. In Waterford there's Olive Garden and Ruby Tuesday's. There's Margarita's in Mystic if you like Mexican, as well as the Steak Loft which is a little nicer than the chains. There's also the Seaman's Inn but I've never eaten there personally.

What about the restaurants at the Casinos? I don't go there, but I would imagine they must be good.

I know it's a long drive, but I'd go to the Cheesecake Factory in West Hartford, CT or Providence, RI. We just went to the one in Westchester the other night and we had the best (and biggest) appetizers, ribs, steaks, chicken, desserts, etc for a very reasonable price.

Paul's Pasta in Groton would be a good choice for kid-friendly but not a chain. It's not a steak restaurant though.
For steak, I agree with the recommendation for the Steak Loft in Mystic, if you go early I think it would be ok with kids.

You might want to forget about the Chessecake Factory, only reason I say this is because the lines for this restaurant can be insanely long and I don't think they accept reservations. Plus that's quite a drive from southeastern CT. If you're in the Groton-New London area, why not consider Mystic? There are many fine restaurants here to choose from, they'd certainly be closer than Cheesecake Factory.
