Relocating to CT, working in Rocky Hill
Hello, I was hoping someone could give me their opinion on affordable suburbs, within about 25 mins of Rocky Hill, CT.
Looking for low crime (obviously), newer contruction, somewhat easy access to shopping and health care.
Thx

Middletown, Durham, Newington (less newer construction but affordable), Berlin, Kensington (pricier), Rocky Hill, Wallingford, Wethersfield (newer section)...really all depends on whether your work location is closer to Rte 91 or I-91.

Your budget will drive some of this because while some towns have new construction, it may start at $500K+.
Rocky Hill has new construction and would be more affordable, Cromwell and Berlin would be reasonable too, Glastonbury would be at the more expensive end, Portland would be more expensive and is the most rural of these towns. You might also consider Southington and Middletown.

Glastonbury, Portland, Southington, Rocky Hill would all be good choices.
I would only offer one caution: With the current economic meltdown…which is severely effecting Connecticut as well…I would look long and hard at buying anything right now. Connecticut has one of the highest foreclosure rates in the USA.
I would NOT take the route of buying a over-inflated home in a expensive suburb, or worse, buying new construction home from some boomer contractor trying to unload an overpriced home before the economy totally collapses. Across Connecticut (and much of the USA) home prices have fallen as much as 20%. They continue to fall…no matter what a local Real Estate agent may tell you ( I work for a data company). Look around for the very best deal. It is, and will remain, a buyers market in Connecticut for a long, long time. Don’t be rushed.
