Hi guys. I'm trying to find a cheap... well, the cheapEST city in Fairfield county. It has to be no longer then a one hour drive to Stamford. Any ideas?

Bridgeport would be the least expensive place to purchase real estate in the county. Whether or not it's the cheapest place to live in the county will depend upon your specific situation. Stratford or Shelton could actually be less expensive for certain people whom are renting.

You can also check out Ansonia or Derby in eastern NH County. They're cheaper than Fairfield County and within an hour to Stamford.

There are some very nice neighborhoods in Danbury, and if you drive down 684 and exit at Bedford/Pound Ridge you can come down into Stamford via Long Ridge Road.

I agree with the suggestions so far, but to the OP, if you are commuting to and from Stamford during rush hour from the above towns, the commute could be a longer than one hour.

Port Chester? It's in NY but it is a reverse commute, and last time I checked it was cheaper than Stamford.

Port Chester has some very nice neighborhoods and the schools score surprisingly well, but it's not as cheap as Stratford, plus you've got those Westchester taxes.

I was thinking of East Haven. How's that?

That's fine except that it's in New Haven County. You originally specified Fairfield County.

It's a decent middle class town. If you're considering the New Haven area then I'd suggest Hamden as well. You can hop on 15 (Wilbur Cross turns into the Merritt) to Stamford instead of taking 95. Traffic won't be great into Stamford during rush hour and can take you over an hour. If you can live in East Haven/Hamden and commute by train, I say go for it. Otherwise the commute might be too much. JMHO
