Snow in hagginum/Haddam
Does this area get a decent amount of snow? I am considering this area, but really want to go where I get the most snow I can!! I assume they don't get as much as the Tolland area considering the elevation in Tolland is approx 600 feet vs. Haddam at 71 ft. But if Haddam still gets a decent amount of snow and is pretty and a nice area with a good quality of life, I would consider.

Tolland county where I live has received about 15" this year. That elevation is not an average but sounds to me like nearly the highest point. Haddam has higher points then 71 feet. Haddam is a bit closer to the shore line also- since parts of Tolland county border Massachusetts that area would receive higher amounts of Snow on average then southern areas of Tolland county, or Haddam. On an 'average' year Tolland county will receive a small amount of more snow- but the difference will not be that much between the two locations, unless right on the Mass border, and at the most southern part of Haddam. For example; Towns in northern Tolland county like Somers might receive 8" of snow during a storm, while East Haddam may receive mostly rain or slush.
Southern Tolland county is not far from Haddam- get the idea? And 'elevation' plays a relatively small role in eastern CT- regarding snow vs. liquid forms of precipitation. In northwestern CT- that role regarding elevation is higher. In eastern Connecticut elevation is not as important as proximity to Long Island and Block Island sound- and winds from the east.

Building on what Skytrekker has stated, the four (4) northern counties (Litchfield, Hartford, Tolland, and Windham) are historically more likely to get snow from traditional storms primarily because of elevation.
If the storm is a Nor'easter, then the following usually get more snow (in descending order): New London, Windham, Middlesex, Tolland, and New Haven.

You might want to check out the Litchfield Hills (Litchfield, Goshen, Morris, New Hartford, and other area communities). This area of the state has the highest average snowfall in CT for any given year. Litchfield is an historic community with many old, beautiful homes and rolling farms. Schools here are good and the people are friendly.
Good luck!
