We are now looking at houses in Old Saybrook, Killingworth, Westbrook, and Guilford. With schools being the #1 priority and recreation #2 which is the best? Or, how would you rank them?
#1 Guilford (and of course its the most expensive)
(great schools (lots of money), and a variety of sports and recreational activities. a good deal of their sports teams dominate or are in the top (football, field hockey, lacross). im from clinton (the inbetween saybrook/westbrook and guilford on the coast, and just south of killingworth) and if I had to chose one of these towns to move to it would be guilford.
#2 Old Saybrook (just about average. its a nice town, their sports teams are always in the top five, but not necessarily number one. their high school is nice, and just underwent huge renovations this summer. it is an average size school and town with just about 700 students in the high school)
#3 Killingworth (the schools actually pull from a huge area, and from killingworth, the high school can be anywhere from 15 mins to 35 mins away, however, they have great sports facilities and teams, including a pool)
#4 Westbrook (this is a small town with an equally small school. the middle school and high school are combined. sports aren't very good here either because the student population is so small (2005 grad class was 78 students))
also, a note about the capt testing. some schools (madison) place an EXTREME emphasis on this and actually teach how to take the capts in classes rather then teaching subject matter. there are also schools that bribe students to do well by offering them deals such as if they pass on their first try they get out of all their final exams. capt testing is not such an accurate way to measure the quality of schools in CT
I would have to agree on Madison, although probably a bit more expensive.
